The US Department of Energy (DOE) has selected 25 cost-share projects under the Clean Cities program that will be funded with nearly $300 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. City of Chicago, Department of Environment’s Chicago Area Alternative Fuels Deployment Project. Total DOE award: $14,999,927.

While I was aware of this trend — I see it loud and clear in my own neighborhood — I hadn’t realized how wide-spread this trend actually was in the US. So if my math and estimates are close to correct, roughly 27 million households living in single-family homes cannot pull into their garage and plug in and charge an electric vehicle.
