When EV batteries degrade enough to be unsuitable for cars (about 70% capacity remaining), they are re-used for electricity storage. EVs are still more expensive to buy at the outset, but they quickly pay for themselves over time in terms of financial value and reduced carbon emission when compared to ICE vehicles.
