First natural gas GM half-ton pickups with 5.3L DI engines delivered in Texas

The 2015 model vehicles were purchased by local Houston company NewTex Plumbing and San Antonio-based Pioneer Energy Services. GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado trucks for each fleet were upgraded to run on either natural gas or gasoline using the new DuraDrive DI natural gas system, supplied by Utah-based AGA Systems.

The story begins with a company in Utah called Raser Technologies. In 2009 Raser displayed a Hummer H3 that claimed to return up to 100 miles* on a gallon of fuel (*in local daily driving) when it was outfitted with the company’s range-extender plug-in electric powertrain. The VTRUX van (Express) was said to meet 30 miles per gallon.
