The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) categorizes the incident as a “major spill”—i.e., Approximately 4,500 barrels of oil and water (189,000 gallons US) have been recovered. Principal producers of Wabasca include Cenovus Energy and Canadian Natural Resources. greater than 250 barrels (10,500 gallons).
