Sandia team puts power into local grid with supercritical CO2 closed-loop Brayton-cycle turbine

Green Car Congress

Sandia National Laboratories researchers recently delivered electricity produced by a new power-generating system to the Sandia-Kirtland Air Force Base electrical grid. In comparison, the Brayton cycle has a theoretical conversion efficiency upwards of 50%. It took us a long time to get the data needed to let us connect to the grid.

Solid state Batteries v/s Li-ion Batteries: A Comparison Based on Cost

Get Electric Vehicle

To better understand the severity of the cost component, let us look at the cost comparison between Solid state and Li-Ion batteries. Li-Ion batteries are used for anything from powering electric vehicles to storing energy for the grid. In comparison to lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries provide various benefits.

EU Innovation Fund grants €108M to RWE’s waste-to-hydrogen project FUREC

Green Car Congress

For comparison: This is equivalent to the output of a 700-megawatt offshore wind farm with coupled electrolyzers. The CO 2 released during the hydrogen production is captured and can be stored or possibly used as a raw material by industry in the future. The plant is expected to produce 54,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year.

The EV Transition Explained: Can the Grid Cope?

Cars That Think

There have been vigorous debates pro and con in the United States and elsewhere over whether electric grids can support EVs at scale. In comparison, the state’s goal is to achieve this amount by 2050. As energy expert Chris Nelder noted at a National Academy EV workshop , “vehicle-to-grid is not really a thing, at least not yet.

Injection of hydrogen into the German gas distribution grid from power-to-gas demo plant

Green Car Congress

The project partners decided to deploy a PEM system, as this technology, in comparison with alkaline systems, uses water rather than a potassium hydroxide solution, and is therefore more environmentally friendly. The electrolyzer supplies the hydrogen-methane mixture at the same pressure as the gas distribution network—3.5

Proposed CA LCFS pathways for corn starch ethanol with carbon capture and sequestration: as low as 37 gCO2e/MJ

Green Car Congress

RTE recently performed a detailed assessment of engineering designs for capturing, transporting and storing CO 2 , and integrating CCS with ethanol production. By comparison , the pathways without CCS ETCH21 (DDGS) has a CI of 82.30 gCO 2 e/MJ. CI = 37 gCO 2 e/MJ. gCO 2 e/MJ; ETCH219 (MDGS) has a CI of 76.46 gCO 2 e/MJ.

Cornell team suggests engineered bacteria could address current limitations of energy storage technologies

Green Car Congress

Raising the penetration of renewable —an intermittent—sources of energy into the grid will require large scale electrical energy storage and retrieval. We are suggesting a new approach where we stitch together biological and non-biological electrochemical engineering to create a new method to store energy.
