Now you can run it solely on electric power for up to 21 miles and plug it in to charge. So while other SUVs might get dinged for these things, we chalk it up to part of the experience. But if you have the scratch and the access to juice, it makes a strong argument for itself. They’re supposed to be. You don’t need the 4xe.

We’ve mused before on these digital pages that a clean car seems to run better – a missive that apparently holds true for sports cars and hot hatchbacks, though burly off-road pickup trucks and SUVs may take umbrage with that assessment. It sure seems stout and I have no reason to doubt that claim.

Score one for the vanishingly few people who still prefer a sedan over an SUV (read: just about everyone working here). kWh and a maximum charging rate of 205 kW. The latter means it will be able to hoover up fresh electrons from suitably burly fast chargers to the tune of juicing itself from 10 – 80 percent in about half an hour.

The juice comes from a lithium-ion battery pack with a 71.4-kWh Charging is listed at about 9 hours from “low to full” on a Level 2 charger. I suspect most of the brickbats tossed the bZ’s way have to do with its ugly-duckling styling – and with Toyota choosing to market what is essentially a tall wagon as an SUV. kWh capacity.
