I modified the wiring in the original 914 AC kit (as suggested by Paul Jorg) to turn on the regen when the brake lights came on instead of controlling regen by releasing the accelerator pedal.

In the process, the DC-DC converter turned on (indicated by red LED) and then slowly decayed to the off state. Since the positive terminal of the auxiliary battery is tied to the unswitched 12V rail, the negative terminal of the battery is at zero volts. Here are the negative high-voltage connections.

If it is cold outside or the battery charge is low, then the engine kicks-in, as it does under heavy acceleration (unless you’re in EV Now mode as explained below). I double checked the connections on the neutral-start relay in the engine compartment and everything looked fine. I wasn't seeing a huge voltage drop, so I didn't believe the controller, at least from a DC-current point of view. It's in the place of the most-positive battery terminal in the fuel compartment.
