EPA requires trucking companies to reduce air pollution near Los Angeles schools as part of emissions violation settlement

The companies failed to install particulate filters on some of their heavy-duty diesel trucks and failed to verify that trucks they hired for use in California complied with the state rule. As part of the settlement, the companies will spend $575,000 on air filtration systems at schools in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

IEA: Electric vehicles posted strong gains in 2016; 2M now in global parc

With more than 750,000 units sold over the year, the number of electric vehicles in the global parc—primarily Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)—surpassed 2 million units in 2016, following a year of strong growth in 2015, according to the International Energy Agency’s Global EV Outlook 2017.

Equinor contracts for first green-ammonia-fueled supply vessel; 2MW SOFC

The vessel will transport supplies to installations on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). The Viking Energy supply vessel will in the contract period be part of a research project developing, installing and testing long-distance sailing propelled by a carbon-free-ammonia-fueled 2 MW solid-oxide fuel-cell (SOFC) system.

As part of the expansion, Volkswagen will implement new processes for the manufacture of camshaft components, including technology such as electro-chemical machining and laser surface structuring.
