Volvo Cars? Chengdu car plant powered by 100% renewable electricity; 65% hydropower

Under the new contract, around 65% of the electricity supply comes from hydropower, while the remainder comes from solar power, wind power and other renewable sources. At the Ghent plant in Belgium, Volvo Cars installed 15,000 solar panels in 2018, the first large-scale introduction of solar energy in its global manufacturing network.

TECO 2030 aims to build hydrogen fuel cell gigafactory in Norway

TECO 2030 ( earlier post ) is aiming to establish Norway’s first large-scale production of fuel cells, optimized to be the heart of hydrogen-powered ships and other heavy-duty installations. IMO, the International Maritime Organization, targets carbon emission cuts of 40% by 2030 and 70% by 2050, compared to 2008 values.

Xcel Terms First Phase of Sodium-Sulfur Battery Wind Energy Storage Test Project Successful

Xcel Energy has released the preliminary results from its wind-to-battery (W2B) storage project in Minnesota, and termed the technology successful. In October 2008, Xcel began testing a one-megawatt sodium-sulfur (NaS) battery ( earlier post ) to demonstrate its ability to store wind energy and move it to the electricity grid when needed.

IRENA report finds renewable power costs at parity or below fossil fuels in many parts of world
