The original Ford Taurus first appeared as a 1986 model , going through three generations and nearly 10 million sales (counting the Mercury Sable ) before getting the axe in October of 2006. That made 2007 the final model year for the "real" Taurus, and I've found one of these rare cars in a New Orleans self-service junkyard.

Honda beat everybody to the production gasoline-electric hybrid game in the United States, putting the Insight in showrooms in 1999. That car was the 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line, and I managed to find one in a Denver-area car graveyard recently. A 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line hybrid in a Colorado wrecking yard.

The Coca-Cola Company and Ford Motor Company are collaborating on the first interior fabric made from the same renewable material used to produce Coca-Cola’s PlantBottle Technology packaging. The Ford Fusion Energi research vehicle will be on display later this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Ford Motor Company has added its near-dry machining process—Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL)—to six plants globally, a number that will nearly double in the next few years. The actions—along with a previously announced initiative to reduce approximately 500 salaried and agency positions across Europe, with the Ford salaried reductions achieved voluntarily—affect 6,200 positions or about 13% of Ford’s European workforce. Ford plans to close the two facilities in the UK in 2013.
