Idemitsu Kosan and RITE Working on Production of Cellulosic Biobutanol
Petroleum and petrochemical company Idemitsu Kosan and Japan’s Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE) recently formed a joint research team to develop a way to mass-produce cellulosic biobutanol. RITE has been collaborating with Honda on the production of cellulosic ethanol and also biobutanol since 2006.

Making the hybrid segment more Fit
Nevertheless hybrids are set to become cheaper with the upcoming launch of the Honda Fit hybrid , and that’s good news for hybrid fans. According to GreenCarCongress , the new Honda Fit hybrid will be priced at $18,600 in Japan when it goes on sale in October, making it the cheapest hybrid available.

Insight Becomes First Hybrid Vehicle to Rank as Best-Selling Vehicle in Japan
Insight sales in Japan from launch. Honda’s Insight ( earlier post ) ranked as the best-selling car among all new vehicle registrations in Japan in April—excluding mini-vehicles with displacement of less than 660cc—with sales of 10,481 units, according to data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association.

Honda CR-Z hybrid hits Japan in February
Two new Honda hybrid cars are coming, well, at least to Japan according to AutoWeek. Honda has confirmed that it will begin selling the Honda CR-Z hybrid in Japan in February. Additionally, before the end of 2010 Honda will also launch the Honda Fit hybrid in Japan. And in the US when?

Honda to increase green car output
Demand is so high for green cars after government incentives were introduced in Japan, that the Honda Motor Company, the country’s number two car manufacturer, has said it will start partial weekend shifts at two factories in a bid to push low emission vehicles off the production line.
