To date, the ACO has run the Le Mans 24 Hours in Le Mans, France, and the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, with races in Europe, the United States and Asia. In March, the ACO and the FIA announced their partnership and the FIA World Endurance Championship to start in 2012.

At the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volvo Car Corporation will unveil the Volvo XC60 gasoline-electric Plug-in Hybrid Concept. In February 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show, Volvo introduced the diesel-electric V60 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) to go on sale in Europe later this year.

Ford to apply start-stop technology to non-hybrid vehicles in North America in 2012

Ford will begin applying start-stop technology—currently used in Ford hybrids and some Ford cars in Europe—in conventional cars, crossovers and SUVs in North America in 2012. Ford’s patented new Auto Start-Stop system for gasoline engines will improve fuel economy for most drivers by at least 4%.

Ford poll finds Europeans want freedom of car ownership, but worry about traffic, cost of driving, environment

A new Ford Motor Company-sponsored poll of 6,000 people across Europe found that most Europeans remain committed to car ownership, but have growing concerns about traffic congestion, the cost of driving and the environment. The survey was carried out between July and August 2012. 53% say climate change is the world’s biggest problem.
