Bosch and Weichai Power have increased the efficiency of Weichai truck diesel engines from their current level of roughly 46% to 50%. Even though the diesel engine is nearly 130 years old, its development continues. Bosch provides its modular common-rail system for the six-cylinder diesel engine with 12.9 liters displacement.

The California state fleet has reduced its petroleum consumption by 13% compared to a 2003 baseline, according to a state progress report. In 2003, the state fleet consumed 38,559,715 gallons of petroleum-based fuel (gasoline and diesel), according to the report. 216,723 gallons E85 ethanol (6%). 42,014 gge of electricity (1%).

A 2003 study on victims of the coronavirus SARS found that patients in regions with moderate air pollution levels were 84% more likely to die than those in regions with low air pollution. Even the latest diesel engines emit dangerous levels of pollution. So cleaning up the streets is a basic investment for a healthier future.
