Ford plans to cut the amount of water used to make each vehicle 30% globally by 2015, compared with the amount of water used per vehicle in 2009. If Ford meets the 30% goal, the amount of water used to make a vehicle will have dropped from 9.5 m 3 (2,510 gallons US) in 2000 to approximately 3.5 Reducing water use.

Water purification technology company Aquatech has been awarded a contract for a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant for a coal-to-chemicals facility in Hailer in Inner Mongolia. of it, producing 2000 m 3 /day (528,000 gallons US/day) of process water and 220 m 3 /day (58,000 gallons US/day) of distilled water for various end-user applications.

General Motors said that 52% of its worldwide facilities are now landfill-free; i.e., all waste generated from normal operations is reused, recycled or converted to energy. GM employees focus first on decreasing the amount of waste generated, and then work to recycle the unavoidable waste.

The group is committed to making transportation fuel from agricultural waste, energy crops and forest biomass. The demo plant will have a capacity of 5 MT per day and has been designed so that it can be scaled up to 2000 MT per day.
