The Karma, a luxury four-passenger sedan, can be recharged by plugging it in; it can then be driven on power from a battery alone for 50 miles. After that, an onboard gasoline generator kicks on to recharge the battery, extending the range by 250 miles between fill-ups. The Karma can be refueled quickly.)

A key thing, he said, will be to recharge the batteries at an acceptable time for the electricity grid — to “make sure people aren’t charging at the very peak, peak time,” like late afternoon when the electricity grid is already weighted down by demands like air conditioning. Most Americans commute less than 40 miles daily, so that most days they would consume practically NO combustible fuel, na d not pollute the environment while driving or idling.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. Plus you can use solar and break technology, as well as other more experimental technology, and never have to charge it because it would then charge itself.
