Tesla has instigated another round of price cuts that make the Model 3 and Model Y cheaper than ever. The entry-level Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive now sells from $54,900 plus on-road costs, representing a $4000 reduction on top of last month’s $3000 price cut.

Lotus Cars Australia has slashed the price of its incoming 2024 Lotus Eletre by as much as $49,010 from the originally advertised price. It’s the latest example of the tumble in prices for electric vehicles that has included brands as varied as Peugeot, Renault, Polestar, Nissan and – of course – Tesla.

Lucid will address the meat of the new-vehicle market with a crossover SUV dubbed the Gravity. On Thursday, the Lucid Gravity electric three-row crossover SUV debuted at the 2023 LA auto show. When it arrives late in 2024 Lucid projects the Gravity will have over 440 miles of range and base models will cost less than $80,000.

Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares has pledged that Jeep’s affordable all-electric SUV will be priced from less than US$25,000 ($A37,500) in the USA – almost US$19,000 less than the cheapest Tesla Model Y. Some suggestions are that it might even sit at the lower end of the mid-size SUV category, making it almost Cherokee-sized.

Researchers at Argonne National Laboratory, with colleagues from Lawrence Berkeley, Oak Ridge, and National Renewable Energy labs, and the University of Tennessee, have published a comprehensive analysis of the total cost of ownership (TCO) for 12 sizes of vehicles ranging from compact sedans up to Class 8 tractors with sleeper cabs.
