Parking in these Coulomb charge stations is restricted to city-owned vehicles and Car Share companies under threat of towing. A threat taken seriously in San Francisco.

A few more J-plugs have appeared in the San Francisco Bay Area, tho I challenge you to find out where they are. They are not listed on the DOE funded charge station project sites. I did find one of the three on recargo.com , one of a number of outfits aggregating charge station locations. Good for them. And one on Google's map.

Four electric vehicle charging stations were unveiled today at a new parking structure in downtown South San Francisco. The Coulomb J-plug/120V units were installed under grants to ChargePoint America (DOE and CEC money). For the time being, there is no charge for either the parking or charging for vehicles that plug in.

I had recently installed the PakTrakr system, so I cleared out the serial logging attachment and started collecting data. I crawled into a Taco Time and asked if I could plug in. After that, I walked a block away and found an auto parts place that was kind enough to let me plug in. volts at 40 degrees F to get to 80% charge.

It was a Leviton brand charger and it cost over $1300 but it came with a 10 year warranty, so we hired an electrician to install it and the 50amp breakers it needed. It worked fine for six years, first in charging the electric Rav4 and then starting in 2017 our two new electric Chevy Bolts. But the number was no longer in service.

With the front suspension coil-overs installed, I felt much more confident in driving the car around without bottoming out. The link-10 is pretty good at measuring state-of-charge with Peukert compensation, so I felt good about knowing how much juice I had left. It's 17 miles one-way with charging at work.

Having an EV you learn about the basics of electric power, charge rates and kilowatt-hours or KWh. . Power companies also use KWh as the base charge unit for billing consumers. In March 2020 we installed 9 solar panels an inverter and 2 battery packs. Very basic maths gives the LEAF a power usage of close to 4 miles per KWh.
