The days of ICE vehicles in Norway are numbered. Some years ago, the government set a goal of 100% electric sales by 2025, and that goal is well within sight. Battery EVs took a 90% share, as recent tax changes make PHEVs less appealing. A total of 7,380 cars sold in Norway in February, a decrease from last February.

Norway saw plugin electric vehicles take 76.3% full electrics (BEVs), and 9.8% plugin hybrids (PHEVs). For example, petrol-only vehicles (with relatively high CO2 emissions) are now taxed much higher in Norway. For the midsized SUVs that Norway favours, the additional outlay is roughly 8% to 10%, or more.

Norway has offered strong incentives for motorists to switch to Electric Vehicles with strong tax incentives for electric vehicles. ICE vehicles are subject to a significant tax, and electric vehicles are exempt from that tax. As a result, you can get a much better EV, at any price, compared to price-competitive gas cars.
