Stadler wins contracts for up to 120 battery-powered trains, 25 hydrogen trains

Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has awarded Stadler a framework agreement for up to 120 battery-powered trains. The FLIRT Akku vehicles are designed to replace the current diesel fleet and will enable sustainable operation on lines that are only partially electrified.

Bombardier (now Alstom) to convert AGC hybrid trains to full battery power

With 2,473 AGC train cars in operation today, the AGC is the largest regional fleet operated in France. To help France meet its sustainability targets, Bombardier will now convert AGC hybrid trains to full battery power. The effort is part of France’s strategy to eventually phase diesel power out of its national rail fleet.

Wrightbus unveils two new single-deck fuel-cell- and battery-electric buses

Wrightbus unveiled the new new single-deck GB Kite Hydroliner fuel-cell-powered bus and single-deck GB Kite Electroliner battery-powered bus last week at the Millbrook Proving Ground. The GB Kite Hydroliner is powered by a 70 kW or 100 kW Ballard FC Move fuel cell, paired with a 30 kWh or 45 kWh battery system.

Siemens Mobility orders 14 Ballard 200 kW fuel cell modules for 7 trains; LOI for up 200 additional modules

Ballard Power Systems announced an order for 14 x 200 kW fuel cell modules from Siemens Mobility GmbH, a leading supplier in the development of alternative drives, to power a fleet of seven Mireo Plus H passenger trains. The modules will be used for Siemen’s Mireo Plus H trains.

Glencore orders full fleet of Epiroc battery-electric mining equipment for Onaping Depth nickel and copper mine in Canada

Glencore’s Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations (INO) has ordered a full fleet of Epiroc battery-electric equipment for use at the Onaping Depth Project in Ontario, Canada. Traditionally, mining machines are diesel-powered, though more and more mining companies are adding battery-electric machines to their fleets.
