Topsoe will deliver basic engineering and license for methanol synthesis and TIGAS gasoline synthesis technologies. This is our first involvement in a commercial scale Power-to-X facility producing gasoline. The gasoline synthesis from methanol has been commercially proven in a 15000-bpd plant in Turkmenistan since 2019.

As outlined in its current Short-Term Energy Outlook , the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates that global consumption of petroleum and liquid fuels averaged 92.3 million b/d from 2019. EIA expects that global liquid fuels consumption will grow by 5.3 million b/d—surpassing 2019 levels. in 2020.

Gasoline sales fell 8.4% (nearly 185 million less gallons) from the previous week for the seven-day period ending 28 November, bringing consumption to the lowest level for a Thanksgiving Week in 23 years, going back to 1997. Lexus announced that the luxury brand eclipsed the milestone of 2 million global sales of electrified vehicles—hybrids and battery-electric—at the end of April 2021. In 2020, 33% of the Lexus models sold globally were of the electrified variety. Since the launch of the RX400h hybrid in 2005, Lexus has continued to expand.
