CATL ) signed a cooperation agreement with Honda Motor in Tokyo to cooperate formally to develop electric vehicles for the future market. Under the agreement, CATL will become Honda’s partner in the field of lithium-ion EV batteries. CATL will guarantee the supply to Honda of about 56 GWh of lithium-ion EV batteries before 2027.

Honda staged the North American debut of the Honda FCV fuel cell vehicle at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS); the company also announced US availability for the FCV in 2016. The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell sedan ( earlier post ) made its North American debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show as Honda announced additional details for the vehicle’s entry into the US market. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are a zero emissions technology that Honda believes in, and has worked to advance for more than 20 years.

In a briefing in Tokyo last week, Honda Motor outlined its direction of technology development toward its 2030 Vision. The Honda-developed electric motors use magnets containing no heavy rare-earth metals. Honda will introduce its BEV Architecture which will enable the sharing of the basic framework for its vehicles.

At a press meeting in Tokyo, Honda Motor Co., President & CEO Takahiro Hachigo discussed the future direction of Honda, including various products and technologies and the company’s new 2030 Vision.
