BYD Ltd and Praco Didacol (BYD’s Colombian distribution partner) announced that BYD e6’s will be placed into Taxi service as of Q1 2013 in the Colombian capital Bogotá as a pilot. The District Government authorized this scalable all-electric taxi pilot in an effort to improve the air quality in Colombia’s dense cities.

BYD and The Hertz Corporation, the world’s largest general use car rental brand, announced a strategic partnership to promote new energy applications to propel the development of the EV markets in China. As part of the partnership, Hertz will rent BYD’s e6 electrical vehicle (EV) to Chinese consumers, municipalities and government agencies.

BYD Company Limited, one of China’s fastest growing auto manufacturers, will establish the US headquarters of three separate operating divisions in the City of Los Angeles. BYD expects to invest more than $100 million in construction, which has the potential to create approximately 1,600 construction-related jobs.

Yearly electric bus orders in Europe from 2009 to H12018. Nearly half of delivered and ordered electric buses come from three manufacturers: BYD: 600 units sold and a 20% market share. The announcement that BYD, the Chinese battery giant turned automaker, has actually begun selling its plug-in hybrid, is pretty big news. As most automakers plan for lower sales in 2009, BYD plans to double its sales to 350,000 units, including 10,000 plug-in hybrids. Tags: plug-in cars byd.

Chinese carmaker BYD and Volkswagen have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the options for partnership in the area of hybrids and electric vehicles powered by lithium batteries. Martin Winterkorn, and Chairman of the Board of Management of BYD, Wang Chuanfu, signed the agreement last week during a BYD visit to Volkswagen.
