kWh NiMH plug-in hybrid (PHEV) conversion kit that enables all-electric mode driving at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour (until the battery pack is depleted) in a converted Prius. Some previous Prius plug-in conversion kits allowed motorists to go as fast as 52 miles per hour using a “forced stealth” mode.

SDG&E tested the performance of two 2007-model Prius hybrids and then converted them into plug-in hybrids, using a Hymotion 5 kWh lithium-ion battery conversion kit. California’s electricity capacity could recharge as many as 4 million plug-in hybrids when charged during off-peak hours when electricity use is low.

The XL1 is not a product of any of Volkswagen’s modular Baukästen (assembly kits such as the MQB, MLB or MSB, earlier post ). Nonetheless, some of the learnings from the XL1 will flow back to inform the evolution of the different kits, such as to the MQB which has its own plug-in hybrid powertrain, to make its debut in the A3.

This version had mounting tabs that fit well with the bolt holes from the original kit. The 12V voltmeter in the center console never dropped below 12 and stayed at 13 volts most of the time, even with the headlights on. The newer version is the M series and is even smaller and has no heatsink fins on the sides.

The electric Meriva features electronic controls which permit high power electrical recharging using both a 230-volt single-phase household current as well as 400-volt three-phase AC. KIT will use the first electric Meriva. Opel will use MeRegioMobil to study new intelligent charging technologies.

Put another way, the fuel cell technology is being developed so as to work as components in the MQB (transverse) kit, the development of which is led by the Volkswagen brand, and the MLB (longitudinal) kit being driven by Audi. The entire fuel cell operates in the voltage range of 230 to 360 volts. ( Earlier post.)

After some consideration, I purchased a 2x4basics custom workbench kit (which provides the bench's heavy-gauge structural resin supports) and lumber to form the main structure, and then cut slabs of chipboard to form a top and a bottom surface. The 2x4basics kit came with shelves, providing space for plastic storage boxes.
