Part of how California got to its million-EV position is by offering substantial rebates to purchasers of new EVs.

The study by William Sierzchula at Delft University of Technology, published in the journal Transportation Research Part D , used fleet manager interviews and pilot project report to investigate 14 US and Dutch organizations that adopted EVs from 2010 to 2013 to determine which factors influenced their purchase decisions. 2014.05.022.

What is a surprise to us, was the rebound in sales of the Prius Prime, which was up 128% YOY. And as you can see from the chart below, the the Prius is heading toward 60% of its sales being for the Prime PHEV version. A fourth trend or finding is that YOY sales increased 154% for these EVs with publicly reported numbers.

Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources, reported Wednesday that first year sales of the automaker's plug-in hybrid could quadruple that of the Toyota Prius' U.S. GM Product Chief Bob Lutz is quoted in various newspapers saying he wanted to get prototypes of the Volt ready for road tests next year , and ready for sale in 2010.
