For the uninformed, the question was: Does the battery need to be plugged in to a hybrid car charger ? When hybrids appeared most used nickel-metal-hydride batteries This question was such a big roadblock for increasing sales that Toyota began an advertising campaign for the Prius that clearly emphasized that plugging in was not necessary.

The battery is recharged by plugging the car into an EV charging station. But did you know there are different types of electric car plugs, and each one has different capabilities, costs and charging speeds? This is analogous to plugging your phone in. Level 1 charging stations use a 120-volt system.

The new Nissan quick chargers ( earlier post ) are engineered to the CHAdeMo standard and can deliver up to 50 kW of high voltage direct current (DC) electricity. The CHAdeMO—Charge to Move—standard was developed and agreed by a coalition of Japanese companies including Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Fuji Heavy Industries.
