After leaving GM, Stempel eventually connected with Ovshinsky at Energy Conversion Devices. They have a small staff and are testing the product in Oakland County. In another bit of coincidence, Stempel headed GM’s EV1 electric car program in the early 1990s. The duo worked there until Ovshinsky decided to retire two years ago.
