Diesel is the predominant technology in commercial trucking, school, and transit bus sectors, according to the Diesel Technology Forum’s analysis of data sourced from S&P Global Mobility TIPNet data of vehicles in operation for Class 3-8 as of December 2021. Of the largest trucks (Class 8) in operation, 97% are diesels.

LiquidPiston, an innovator of compact and efficient engine technology and hybrid power systems, intends to commercialize the XTS-210, a 25-horsepower, two-stroke, supercharged, liquid-cooled, 210cc rotary engine. The XTS-210 is heavy-fuel compatible (diesel, Jet A, JP-8, kerosene) and multi-fuel capacble (gasoline, propane, hydrogen).

The YCK05 engine is the first operating hydrogen engine for China’s commercial vehicle market, the world’s largest commercial vehicle market. The commercially-available diesel-fueled version of the YCK05 has a power range from 190-240 PS and maximum torque of 900 N·m.

In 2017, hybrids represented 41% of Toyota’s European total sales, rising +38% year-on-year to 406,000 units. Since then, HEV sales substantially exceed our diesel sales.

The study validated that Tula’s Dynamic Skip Fire (DSF) developed for mild-hybrid diesel vehicles reduced CO 2 emissions in a 2.3 liter 4-cylinder 48-volt light commercial vehicle in challenging real-world conditions. Tula will present the results at the virtual Diesel Powertrains 3.0 Conference on 30 June.
