Ten years ago this week, in February 2009, Green Car Reports published its first story—one packed with insight regarding the Chevrolet Volt, which was then still nearly two years away. Despite all that could have happened to the Volt in GM’s bankruptcy, it arrived on time and was everything we expected.

The first Chevrolet Volt range-extended electric car won all sorts of awards in 2011, the year it was introduced. But it didn't win that year's Green Car Reports Best Car To Buy award, because we deemed the world's first mass-priced high-volume battery-electric car more significant.

I was at the end of a 3-year lease and a 6-month extension on my 2018 Chevrolet Volt Plug-in Hybrid. It’s now what’s know as an orphan car—no longer in production as GM moves to full electrics. Electric-only range of the Volt has not only not diminished , but I’m regularly see 60-mile estimated ranges after a charge.

When General Motors announced in November that it would stop production of the Chevrolet Volt, it was a shock to many green car fans' systems. The Volt was one of the first two modern electrically powered cars to go on sale in 2010, and is still the longest-range plug-in hybrid on the market.
