Battery-powered Mercedes-Benz eActros approved as truck-trailer combo with total weight of 40 tons

The Mercedes-Benz battery-electric eActros has now been approved as a truck-and-trailer combination with a total weight of 40 tons. The vehicle is already available to order for customers in this configuration. The energy gained when braking is fed back into the batteries of the eActros, and is then once more available for driving.

Penn State team devises new control strategy to enhance EV battery performance when driving in cold temperatures

Researchers at Penn State, with a colleague from EC Power, have devised a new control strategy that can rapidly restore EV battery power and permit full regeneration while driving at temperatures as low as −40 °C. The strategy involves heating the battery internally during regenerative braking and rest periods of driving.

The ProMaster EV’s 110 kWh battery pack is larger than the Ford E-Transit’s newly enlarged 89 kWh, and Ram quotes a “targeted range” of up to 162 miles “in city driving” against the Ford’s estimated 159 miles (for low-roof cargo vans). The Ram’s battery powers a 200 kW (268 hp) motor driving the front wheels, rated at 302 lb-ft of torque.
