It is the latest concrete step towards Volvo Cars’ ambition to have climate-neutral manufacturing by 2025, part of a wider climate plan that aims to reduce the overall carbon footprint per car by 40% between 2018 and 2025. These and other measures are part of the climate plan Volvo Cars launched late last year.

Around 160,000 units of Audi’s first electric model have been delivered since 2018. From 2025, production at all Audi plants will be carbon neutral as part of the company-wide environmental program Mission:Zero. AUDI AG has owned the Belgium site since 2007. 2018 saw the birth of the Audi e-tron.

The project, called “European Battery Innovation” (EuBatIn) was jointly prepared and notified by Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden. In 2018, the Commission adopted the Strategic Action Plan for Batteries and has promoted a wide range of initiatives as part of the plan.

For example, by implementing rail transport it reduced CO 2 emissions by almost 75% on the route between its Ghent, Belgium-based manufacturing plant and a purpose-built depot in northern Italy. Both initiatives form part of the climate action plan that Volvo Cars revealed this year.

Most recently, Elli added about 24,000 Vattenfall stations in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden along with 1,000 high-power charging points (HPC) operated by Fastned in the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, France and Switzerland. Elli was founded in 2018 and has offices in Berlin, Wolfsburg and Munich.
