Hybrid and electric vehicles accounted for 7.5% of European sales so far this year, up from just one per cent in the first six months of 2016, according to Michael Cole, Chief Operating Officer of Kia Motors Europe. In addition, Kia’s cumulative market share climbed to 3.0%, up from 2.8% (229,585 units) during the first half of 2016.

The fuel efficiency of new cars sold in the European Union (EU) continued to improve last year but at a slower rate, according to provisional data from the European Environment Agency. g CO 2 /km, new cars sold in 2016 emitted more than 23 g CO 2 /km above the 2021 target, according to the provisional emissions reported by Member States.

The Hertz Corporation, which includes the Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty brands, has expanded of its Green Traveler Collection car rental fleet to include the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid ( earlier post ) in select cities across the US. All of the Green Traveler cars have fuel efficiency ratings starting at 33+ highway mpg.

The Nikkei reports that Nissan will switch all models sold in China to either electric or hybrid vehicles by 2025. Nissan will introduce nine models in China by 2025 that will either be fully electric or hybrid. e-POWER, introduced in 2016 in the Note, is a non-plug-in series-hybrid drive system. Earlier post.).

The 100,000th Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid rolled off the production line this week amid a gathering of employees at the Stellantis Windsor (Ont.) Assembly Plant to celebrate the milestone model of the first and still the only plug-in hybrid in the segment.
