The BMW Group plants in Europe are already being supplied with 100% green electricity since 2017.

At its Annual Account Press Conference 2015, the BMW Group announced that, for the first time in the history of the Group, 51% of its electricity worldwide is being supplied from renewable sources. At the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, a methane gas system provides around 50% of the energy required for production.

A new Conference Board of Canada report finds that Canada is unlikely to achieve an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 levels by 2050. Canada’s road transport emissions were 40% higher in 2013 than in 1990. Meeting the 80% reduction would entail a reduction of approximately 117 Mt CO 2 e from 2013 levels.

An alternative method is to use low potential reducing power from non-biomass sources, such as hydrogen gas or electricity, to reduce carbon dioxide directly into products.
