Toyota Industries’ solar charging station. Toyota Industries Corp (TIC) has developed a solar charging station for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) and electric vehicles (EVs). The municipal government of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture plans to build 21 such stations at 11 locations such as the municipal office and branch offices.

Zipcar Launches Pilot PHEV Program in San Francisco

In a member survey last month, more than 80% of the respondents voiced support for the addition of electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and alternative fuel vehicles to the fleet. Zipcar is looking for ways to increase the percentage of these types of vehicles in the fleet in 2009.

Toyota to Lease 200 PHEVs in Japan Starting at End of 2009, 500 Globally; Gen3 Prius Plus Li-ion Pack

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will begin leasing approximately 200 plug-in versions of its third-generation Prius ( earlier post ) equipped with lithium-ion battery packs in Japan starting at the end of this year. This will be the first time a lithium-ion battery is to be employed in a Toyota vehicle for propulsion.
