EPA GHG Inventory shows US GHG down 1.7% y-o-y in 2019, down 13% from 2005

Green Car Congress

Greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 (after accounting for sequestration from the land sector) were 13% below 2005 levels. The number of vehicle miles traveled (VMT) by light-duty vehicles (i.e., CO 2 emissions decreased 2.2% from 2018 to 2019, and CO 2 emissions just from fossil fuel combustion decreased 2.7% from 2018 to 2019.

Fuel economy of light-duty vehicles is another important factor. The decline in new light-duty vehicle fuel economy between 1990 and 2004 reflected the increasing market share of light-duty trucks, which grew from about 29.6% of new vehicle sales in 1990 to 48.0% The remainder was due to off-road sources.

Biden sets 2030 net GHG reduction target for US of 50-52% below 2005 levels

Green Car Congress

US President Joe Biden announced a new target for the United States to achieve a 50-52% reduction from 2005 levels in economy-wide net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2030. Speeding up this shift will be vital to meeting climate targets. or 5,769 MMT CO 2 Eq. after accounting for sequestration from the land sector.

Perspective: The Role of Offsets in Climate Change Legislation

Green Car Congress

This article shows that including offsets in climate change legislation would likely make an emissions program more cost-effective by: (a) providing an incentive for non-regulated sources to generate emission reductions; and (b) expanding emission compliance opportunities for regulated entities. Assuming the offset is legitimate—i.e.,

Ford researchers: global light-duty CO2 regulatory targets broadly consistent with 450 ppm stabilization

Green Car Congress

The Ford team updated the SMP model with historical data for 2000, 2005, and 2010, and extended the model to calculate the total CO 2 emissions (tonnes) and the TTW (tank-to-wheel) emission rate (g CO 2 /km) for the new vehicle fleet.
