I will be converting my 1971 GMCe 1/2 ton truck to electric using hybrid and electric car parts here in Sacramento California. This will be a companion thread to the one on 67-72ChevyTrucks.com where I fight rust and do general restoration repairs. I also have a video series on my Good Enuff Garage YouTube channel. My Experience is limited and summed up.

I've had 25K problem free miles with our 2017 Smart EV, but now the car will not charge. The dealer tells me the charging port is the problem, but that Mercedes/SMART have none of them and do not plan to make more. Do any of you know anything about this issue? Do any of you have a charging port for our car?

Aloha DIYers! I've been thinking about EV conversions for a while, and now I've finally jumped in. Yes, I'm in Hawaii, shipping is crazy expensive, and so I'm trying to source from junkyards as much as possible for my first go at this. I have some basic tools and backyard, no lift or mechanic's tool chest. I've already gotten some of the major components, so I figured it was time to start a thread.
I have a 2011 Vantage EVX1000 that ran great for 2 years, now its cutting it self back and kind of bucking. im getting code 69 Controller: 1238, Fault: 69 Fault Name: External Supply Out of Range. Action: None, unless a action is programmed in VCL. Fault Cause: 1. External load on the 5V and 12V supplies draws either too much or too little current. 2.
As an impulse buy, I picked up a Vantage EV1000 extended cab from an auction. The idea is it would be a little runaround on 5 acres. It had no batteries or charger or documentation. It’s rather rusty (the hood was cut off as the hinges wouldn’t open. Worst case would be using the drive train in another application, and the little bed on a garden trailer.
I bought a vantage truck w/o batteries or charger. It has a Curtis 1238 72v controller. I put in 6 12v large lead acid batteries to get 72v (reads 76v). The BDI still reads zero and the screen says “shutting down”. There are no errors and the battery voltage reads 76v at the 1313 programmer. It doesn’t engage in forward or reverse. Just a red light on the BDI and ‘shutting down’.
Hi All: If there's a better sub-forum for this question, please let me know! I'm looking for a quick-and-dirty CAN logger to grab data and would appreciate any recommendations. I know I can probably build an Arduino-based system but am looking for an inexpensive purchase solution so I can get some data quickly. I'll pursue a custom solution later this year.

I’ve always loved Karmann Ghias and they’ve always been near the top of my list for conversions. This donor was too good of a deal to pass up. The previous owner stripped it down to the chassis, did all of the restoration work, got it dipped and primed, and then got a divorce and had to sell it. Whole thing for $3000. Body is in pristine shape, comes with all new lights, window rubber, alloy wheels, wire harness and more.
I have a couple new Ultium 102kWh packs from a Cadillac Lyriq/GM Blazer and I was wondering if anyone has any info on the wireless BMS system that this is supposed to use. Ideally I would like to try to interface with it as the factory intended but I know the chances of that is really slim and I may have to open it up and install a normal BMS.

I want to take these 2.6kw 16s chrysler pacifica battery modules and turn them into modular packs using I think an ANT 8-20s relay bms and a big contactor. The idea being they will be a fully enclosed package with a big positive and negative, along with some simple control level wires. Everything will be isolated so that they can be put in series. So then I can take them and run two in series, or 4 in series parallel, with the idea being they are swappable like a power tool battery.
I have 2 brand new in box Cascadia CM200DX Inverters for sale. Each inverter also comes with the set of 3 flying-lead phase cables that Cascadia makes specifically for the CM200 (P/N's 88-0217, 88-0218, 88-0219, 2m long, you need all 3) as well as the low voltage connector kit P/N G1-0035-01, "Connector Kit Molex 48" You can inspect them and pick them up in the Southern California area or I can ship them to you.
OK, so I recently bought a Jaguar I-Pace and have been browsing ipaceforums.co.uk intent on signing up once I got around to it. Reading [link] I saw the statement "There must be good modules in faulty batteries that can be swapped into others, there is a risk factor, the risks are known but it’s no greater than working with mains electricity." amd promptly fell out of my chair in horror.
Twenty years ago I bought this 1987 Toyota Le Van or Space van, started a restoration, got another one for parts, then life got in the way and the little van sat in a driveway or under a carport, in a warehouse or a storage park and now under the lean-to of my newly build workshop. I need to get back into it, I need the space, I could use the vehicle every day.

I know this is an EV forum, but I'm interested in input from this community on feasability of my admittedly wild ideas. Project summary : Take an old, pre-2000s class A diesel pusher to a P2 hybrid, able to operate as a PHEV for short ranges, but leaves the ICE able to couple to the drivetrain. Motivation : Increase efficiency, easier availability of AC power for general use in the RV.
I have been setting up my test bench again using my 1238 controller and my AC-50. I believe I had it all correct and the controller is throwing no faults and the motor does turn but very slowly and jerky. It is recording the RPM and Amperage and the Amperage is pretty high when throttling up and the torque is like it could move the house. Not sure where I have the parameters wrong but I was wondering if anyone out there that has the 1238 and the AC-50 might be able to shot me a copy of the.

Hi, The car is a Sunbeam Alpine, last driven in the 1980s (and definitely now inoperable), currently with my great-uncle in Arkansas. He's excited to see my dad and me convert it to an EV. The first step is to get it at or near my folks' place in Louisiana, where, frankly, it might sit a few years until we get this project fully underway. There is no garage at the house, so we need a different solution for storing the car.
I have had a DIY electric outboard boat motor in storage for a couple of years. Now that I am trying to get it going again I'm getting the error "47" When the key switch is activated the contactor closes. I replaced the Curtis PB-8 throttle, checked that the connections were clean and correct and made sure the key switch was working but no luck.
Hi, I am looking for help to save my car from the scrap yard. It passed its MOT but I knew it wasn't right. The brakes would stop working if applied for a long period when going down a hill. The problem was the TEVES II (combined MC, servo and abs unit). I was told that these were never fully supported even in the 80's so a new system is needed.
I’m putting model 3 dual motor into a truck. Chassis is solid. But the suspension, cv axles, carriage is Tesla model 3. people run 3.6 seconds 0-60, must be really hard on those cars. So they’re strong. How would i come to figure out what the towing capacity should be on this Tesla inside a pickup truck?
Hi, I have 2 controllers, I need to get the 1253-8001 working for my conversion build. I created a frankenstein serial cable and it works fine with the 1205M-5601. I can connect and read/change config settings fine. But the same cable/software won't connect to the 1253-8001. Any ideas? I'm scratching my head here.

Dear DIY EV community, I am working on a conversion to create a BMW 2002e in celebration of the first electric BWM from 1972. My aim is to meet the 50th anniversary of this visionary vehicle in 2022. My story is that I believe in EV's and have a strong connection to the BMW 1602/2002. Last year I visited the Munich BMW museum and saw the 1602e.

I'm trying to locate a source for a flat profile long shaft 110 AC motor that is controlled forward and reverse. If things turn out the way they should we will be in the market for a great many of these motors with the remote forward and reverse control. FictionCrafter@aol.
Hi All, Here is my Stock EVC project - first, 'Stock EVC' means I'm ONLY replacing the ICE engine and ANYTHING that feeds it. So, all fuel, obviously, power steering pump, radiator (at least in size), etc., etc., etc. The line of demarcation is the bellhousing - from the bellhousing back through the power train (and forward from the transfer case to front diff) - all stock and NOT upgraded or touched.

Hey all, Just wanted to share a quick story and maybe help someone else avoid a mistake. I was looking at a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee last week looked great, low miles, clean title (according to the seller). I asked for the VIN and did a free check using NICB. Boom it was flagged as a salvage title from Florida. Seller said he “didn’t know” and then ghosted me.
Anyone happen to have recommendations for battery modules to build a 96 or 88v pack @ 4kWh and a current that can sustain 400amps? The modules I linked below after a bunch of research I dont think are going to work. However very new to this, so maybe I am just wrong? Thanks! Project Overview: ATV Battery Build Building a 2001 Polaris Sportsman with a motor driven off the transmission.
I recently bought an MG4 from a salvage auction in South Australia. It is recorded as a "written off vehicle" meaning can not be repaired and reregistered in Australia. I'm guessing because it is an EV and the authorities had no idea regarding what is safe and what is not, and the insurance company that sent it to auction didn't want the hassle of having to get it repaired.
Dear Everybody, My name is Gonard, I am from the Netherlands and already some years in love with the Fiat Panda 141, for 2 years I am driving a petrol version from 1999. Last year I saw on a Dutch Fiat Panda forum a person that converted an original fiat panda elettra to a LiFePO4 battery ten years ago. He and his wife already drove 100.000 kilometres with it.
Hello EV enthusiasts ! Contrary to responses I received when I first posted a request for help in converting my 1965 Ford Falcon using a Mustang Mach-e system , I did it !!! It is not a simple swap but ,it is so satisfying.
Hello, Any information going around on the Tesla's air conditioner compressor? I am looking for the a/c system options for my conversion. I settled on driving a typical Sanden R134 compressor from the tailshaft of the motor. Yet maybe the Tesla compressor is good? Any idea what voltage it takes in? How many amps could it draw? Any positive/negatives you see on this plan?
Hello: I want to purchase a wrecked Mustang Mach-E to pirate all the electrics (drive motor ,battery pack, inverter as well as the speedometer panel) Can the system be installed without the big touch screen ? I've seen the Eluminator system as installed in the 1978 F100 displayed at the 2021 SEMA show and they used the same factory touch screen.
