The sales growth was led by the company’s Recharge line up of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars. Sales of Volvo Cars’ Recharge models made up 40% of all Volvo cars sold globally during the month. The share of Recharge cars reached 29% during the month, with all-electrics accounting for 11.4% (973 units).

Figures from May 2022 were negatively affected by lower production due to last year’s supply chain constraints. Sales of Volvo Cars´ Recharge models of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars increased by 55% in May, accounting for 40% of all Volvo cars sold globally during the month. US sales grew by 14% in May to 10,723 cars.

Renault Group and Plug Power launched their joint venture HYVIA, as outlined in the memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreement signed in January. The process, manufacturing and logistics teams will be based in Flins, as part of the Re-Factory project, and plan to begin the assembly of fuel cells and recharging stations by end of 2021.

Octillion also is supplying batteries for Lightning’s new mobile battery charger, which can be rapidly deployed to provide fast roadside charging to support the operation of electric fleet vehicles. The mobile charger offers the capability to recharge EVs on their routes, which allows fleets to maximize vehicle uptime.

Volvo Cars formally inaugurated a new battery assembly line at its Belgian manufacturing plant in Ghent, where it will start building its first fully electric car, the XC40 Recharge P8, later this year. Volvo XC40 Recharge powertrain. The XC40 Recharge P8 is the first of a family of fully electric Volvos.

De Lijn, the public transport operator (PTO) in the Flemish part of Belgium, is ordering 44 new articulated plug-in e-hybrid buses; further, the operator confirmed the upgrade of 280 if its current hybrid buses into e-hybrids.
