Volvo Cars will extend its range of compact cars into new segments based on its new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA)—a smaller version of Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) ( earlier post ). Volvo Cars will also develop an entirely new range of electrified smaller cars and build a fully electric car for sale by 2019.

California’s plug-in vehicle sales tally is impressive: 663,014 battery electrics (62.9%). On top of that, I’m currently running at 80+% electric miles. The Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards require that vehicles offered for sale in the US attain an average fuel economy of 40.3 to 41 mpg by 2021 and 48.7 mpg by 2025. These standards will require the US new vehicle fleet to double in fuel economy between 2012 and 2025. only the MY 2017-2021 CAFE standards are final.
