Exhaust and aftertreatment on the Achates ULNOx heavy-duty opposed-piston diesel

Green Car Congress

opposed-piston (OP) heavy-duty diesel engine achieved Ultralow NO x (ULNO x ) performance results. A key element of the achievement is the low engine-out NO x from the opposed-piston engine, which reduced the requirements for the aftertreatment system (ATS). Earlier post.) Source: Achates Power.

New Emissions Analytics study suggests pollution from tire wear now 1,850 times worse than exhaust emissions

Green Car Congress

In early 2020, UK-based independent testing firm Emissions Analytics published a study claiming that tire particulate wear emissions were 1,000 times worse than exhaust emissions ( earlier post ). As a result, distance-specific mass and number emissions can be derived, which can then be compared to equivalent tire metrics.

Researchers capture first images of CO2 emissions from commercial aircraft engine using chemical species tomography

Green Car Congress

Researchers have used a novel near-infrared light imaging technique to capture the first cross-sectional images of carbon dioxide in the exhaust plume of a commercial jet engine. To image such a large area, the researchers used a 7m-diameter optical mounting frame (red) located just 3 m from the exit nozzle of the engine.
