Study finds GWP of electrolyzed hydrogen to meet ORD’s fuel needs would be 2.5x that of fossil fuels with 2020 grid mix

Green Car Congress

Phil Ansell, an aerospace engineer at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, modeled the life cycle carbon dioxide equivalent emissions of liquid hydrogen production required to meet the fuel needs of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) with today’s electric grid mix. Ansell presented his findings at AIAA Aviation 2023 in June.

NSF awards UCSD team $39M to improve integration of distributed energy resources into grid; EV batteries also

Green Car Congress

The major driver for the project is the need to decarbonize the electrical grid, protect it from cybersecurity attacks and make it more resilient. We will be replicating the entire California power grid on one campus. Solar panel output depends on the weather, for example, as do wind turbines.

BMW Group plants stepping up activities in balancing-power market to contribute to grid stability

Green Car Congress

Together with other highly-flexible controllable systems in the BMW Group production network, they will contribute to the stability of the public grid outside of the plant. Electricity generation from variable renewable electricity sources (VRE) such as wind and solar power has grown rapidly and is expected to continue to do so.

Mercedes-Benz Cars plants in Germany to be supplied with CO2-neutral energy from 2022

Green Car Congress

In the future, 100% of additional purchased electricity will come from verifiable renewable sources, such as wind- and hydropower. This includes optimized resource consumption through the most efficient use of energy and heat. An energy management system for continuous reduction of energy consumption has been implemented.

How EVs Charge Your Sustainability Strategy

Blink Charging

The source of the electricity – whether renewable sources like wind, solar, or water, or nonrenewable sources like coal – is also important. And while the energy grid is slowly becoming more “clean” as suppliers switch to renewable sources, business owners can also make a difference.

New E3SM exascale modeling system for earth simulation released to scientific community

Green Car Congress

The high-resolution E3SM earth system model simulates the strongest storms with surface winds exceeding 150 mph—hurricanes that leave cold wakes that are 2 to 4 degrees Celsius cooler than their surroundings. The E3SM release will include model code and documentation, as well as output from an initial set of benchmark simulations.
