They provided an upgrade kit with lock washers and loctite to remedy the problem. Based on a suggestion from another 914 AC customer, I purchased some long 8mm bolts to lower the transmission end about 8 inches and still keep it stable. I purchased a Rivnut gun yesterday at Parkrose Hardware. Furthermore, if you purchase spacers, make sure the 1/4" bolts actually go through the spacers. I still need to add the spring, cotter-pin and 5mm threaded barrel listed in the instructions, so I hope those come later with the remainder of the kit parts.

I drove the electric 914 back out to Camp914 where I originally purchased the car and drove it away as a gasoline vehicle. I've mentioned before that I'm working on an open-source EV kit. Yesterday was fun. Craig was happy to see me and took several pictures. Overall, the car handled the freeway and hills well.

The instructions for the AC kit tell you to slide the motor speed control box through the two-inch hole that was cut in the wall between the engine compartment and the rear luggage compartment. Electro Auto forgot to include the post terminals for the most-positive and most-negative connections in the kit.

Note: the kit instructions mention that the bolts that tie the motor mount in the kit to the front Porsche motor mount are 3 1/2 inches long; however, I think this is a typo because I had to go back and purchase 2 1/2 inch bolts because the 3 1/2 ones were almost exactly one inch too long.

In the original kit instructions, the regen relay turns on the brake lights when the AC controller is in regen mode. Again, this involves purchasing a normally closed relay so that when the brake lights come on, it opens up and lets the regen circuit activate on the AC controller. I recommend this alteration to anyone using this kit!

The wife was with the baby and my neightbor was on vacation so I decided to purchase a brake bleeding kit. Replace the valve and attach the bleeding kit to the end of valve. One guy pushing in on the pedal while the other guy is releasing the pressure at the caliper. Pump the handle and build up the vacuum in the fluid catcher.

I ran out and purchased several 1-guage pre-constructed battery cables from Napa today to wire the batteries together, but they were very expensive (16 of them at $12.95 Electro Auto e-mailed me again today to say that the battery racks and boxes have shipped and should arrive on Tuesday! This version had mounting tabs that fit well with the bolt holes from the original kit. I purchased the pre-machined calipers above from the classified section over at 914world.com. The newer version is the M series and is even smaller and has no heatsink fins on the sides.

I find out this morning from Ross Cunniff (who also recently completed the 914 AC kit), that he has had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS with his CCPower DC-DC converter. Since I finished the first kit, Electro Auto didn't want to replace my unit because they wanted me to find out more information before I simply blew up another one.
