Today's Junkyard Find is one of those cars, found in a self-service boneyard near Denver, Colorado. The gauge cluster was gone when I arrived, but a VIN search shows that it was auctioned off with 96,807 miles (or perhaps that was kilometers, though most gray-market W126s ended up getting non-metric gauge conversions).

At last month’s World Renewable Energy Forum 2012 in Denver, Colorado, researchers from the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory presented papers on two different approaches to upgrade pyrolysis oils to hydrocarbon fuels or fuel intermediates. Woody biomass gave up to 36% carbon conversion to pure hydrocarbons at optimum conditions.

The catalyst first removes water from the ethanol (dehydration), leaving behind ethylene. During the second stage of the process, the ethanol is run through a PNNL-developed catalyst that converts ethanol to jet fuel by removing the oxygen and combining hydrocarbons—a process known as dehydration-oligomerization.

In April, Opus 12 and SoCalGas demonstrated the conversion of CO 2 in raw biogas to methane in a single electrochemical step.
