Innovators at NASA’s Glenn Research Center have developed an automated pulse-and-glide technique using a flywheel energy storage system for on-road vehicles; the technology, which NASA Glenn says can improve fuel economy over existing internal combustion or battery hybrid systems by 40-100%, is available for licensing.

The Prius v. The Prius v is one of three planned regional iterations of the vehicle: Toyota will release the vehicle as the Prius+ in Europe, and as the Prius α in Japan ( earlier post ). Bob Carter: Prius may eventually lead Toyota sales in US. I can see Prius eventually leading Toyota sales in the US.

While most EV owners focus on their vehicle’s Performance and Environmental Friendliness/Fuel Economy, Tesla owners rank Performance—particularly “Handling and Cornering”—as their top priority at 90%. By comparison, Fuel Economy is the top priority for Volt, LEAF and Prius Plug-In owners (97%, 94% and 98%, respectively).

As a technology comparison, the 2006-2012 RAV4 offered an optional 269-hp, 3.5-liter seconds—a half-second slower than the RAV4 Prime—and a 21 combined MPG fuel economy rating. and in a league with luxury/performance SUVs that come nowhere near this Toyota’s fuel economy.
