The world added 50% more renewable capacity in 2023 than in 2022 –and that means it has a real chance of achieving the goal set by governments at the COP28 climate change conference of tripling global capacity by 2030. 2024 will be the year renewables change from a nuisance for the fossil fuel industry to an existential threat.

The European Commission has today proposed tough new CO2 cap for vans at just 175g/km of CO2 or at least 42.8mpg by 2016. Vanmakers would pay a penalty for every gram of CO2 over the limit. There would also been a long term emission reduction target of 135 g/km by 2020.

The Exxon/Mobil refinery in Torrance and the Chevron refinery in El Segundo are both located in the South Bay and are each a big part of the carbon-based economy that causes the majority of climate change - although you’ll never get either of these corporations to admit this truth or take responsibility for it.
