I attended today’s Bryan Cave Clean Tech Roundtable at the Broad Stage at Santa Monica College – thanks to my pal Donna Gentry. It attracted a lot of attention but so did his comments during the “Clean Technology in California: Opportunities and Challenges&# panel to start the day.

Stimulus Package allocated for renewables? And I’m big on knowing what the penalties are for non compliance to laws that protect the environment, because I like them to be swift and very harsh so as to actually hurt offenders and make them pay for their crimes to a degree that they never consider committing them again.

The utility is participating in a national consortium that recently was awarded a federal stimulus grant to purchase plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and the company is buying more trucks to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) as well. The matching stimulus grant will provide up to $2.5 million for the vehicle conversions.

With both population and consumption growing worldwide, the capacity of the world’s economy to require less energy for each unit of output has been a rare positive trend for the environment. We need to find less energy-intensive ways to put people back to work and improve economic conditions.
