Leclanché reduces cobalt in NMCA cells from 20 to 5%; 20% higher energy density; water-based production

Green Car Congress

Leclanché SA has reduced the cobalt content in NMCA as cathode material from 20% to 5% and manufacture the electrodes using an environmentally friendly water-based process. Water binder-based NMCA cathodes are easier to dispose of and are also recyclable. No organic solvents are used in the technically simpler process.

ETH Zurich: carbon-neutral fuel made from sunlight and air

Green Car Congress

CO 2 and water are extracted directly from ambient air via an adsorption/desorption process. At the heart of the solar reactor is a ceramic structure made of cerium oxide, which enables a two-step reaction—the redox cycle—to split water and CO 2 into syngas.

Study Finds Stratospheric Water Vapor Is An Important Driver of Decadal Global Surface Climate Change

Green Car Congress

Decadal warming rates arising from (i) greenhouse gases and aerosols alone (black); (ii) that obtained including the stratospheric water decline after 2000 (red); and (iii) including both the stratospheric water vapor decline after 2000 and the increase in the 1980s and 1990s (cyan). Stratospheric water vapor and radiative processes.

EU project HyFlexFuel converted sewage sludge and other biomasses into kerosene by hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL); SAF

Green Car Congress

HTL has several key-advantages, of which the most important are: Flexible production potential: The HTL conversion technology taps into a huge global bio-resource with local variety of primary biomasses. Under these conditions, biomass is converted into a crude bio-oil, which is separated from the process water behind the reactor.

Study Finds Unexpected Decadal Decline in Global Evapotranspiration, Links It to Moisture Limitation in Southern Hemisphere

Green Car Congress

The soils in large areas of the Southern Hemisphere, including major portions of Australia, Africa and South America, have been drying up in the past decade, according to the first major study of evapotranspiration on a global basis. This is the first time we’ve ever been able to compile observations such as this for a global analysis.

Air Liquide launches second Scientific Challenge on essential small molecules; hydrogen in two out of three topics

Green Car Congress

This year, the three topics selected are aimed at improving air quality and preventing global warming for the planet. Following the success of the first edition which mobilized 130 academic and startup partners, Air Liquide has launched a second Scientific Challenge designed to advance research in an open innovation approach.

Researchers contend that large-scale forest bioenergy is neither sustainable nor greenhouse-gas neutral

Green Car Congress

Land management trade-off: maximizing productivity vs. carbon stocks. Large-scale bioenergy production from forest biomass is unsustainable and will increase greenhouse gas emissions, according to a group of international researchers in an invited analysis in the journal Global Change Biology/Bioenergy. NPP= net primary production.
