The purpose of the Workshop is to expand the interest in thermoelectrics for automotive as well as other applications, such as directly converting waste heat from industrial processes, geothermal, stationary power prime movers (gas turbines and diesels), rail, marine and off-highway equipment to electricity.

A sensor network that could monitor an entire forest, or a gas pipeline, or any critical infrastructure, would need thousands or even millions of sensors—and batteries. And then, with transmission complete and the triggering stimulus gone, the system would shut down and return to a sleep or fully powered-off state.

In Germany, renewable electricity generation will be 35 percent by 2020, and 50 percent by 2050. Why then do we not have the same clarity of goal for the electricity generating industry here in the USA? The same can be said for the electricity companies that generate power in the USA. This year’s Index finds that 2018 greenhouse gas emissions—the latest year for which data are available—rose overall for the first time since 2012, driven in part by increases in the power and commercial sectors. Data from the report illustrate that California now must reduce emissions by an average of 4.9%

California hasn’t blinked in its commitment to Schwarznegger’s pet project, the hydrogen highway. Here's my June column. Plug-in cars are inevitable.
