BMW of North America and Coulomb Technologies announced that drivers of the BMW ActiveE all-electric vehicle ( earlier post ) will be able to take advantage of the expansion of the ChargePoint Network into the Boston Metro area. The BMW ActiveE is the BMW Group’s next step towards a mass-produced electric vehicle.

AC Propulsion has delivered an AC Propulsion-powered eBox to the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where it will be used to evaluate Vehicle to Grid (V2G) operation as part of a research program. The Pikes Peak AC-180 motor, rated at 268 hp (200 kW) at 6000-7000 rpm and 258 lb-ft (350 N·m) of torque from zero to 5000 rpm, is a high-performance version of the AC Propulsion AC-150 motor found in the BMW MINI E. The PEU also allows vehicles to charge up to 18kW, where the current crop of EVs is charging at 3kW.

The BMW Group released the data from the MINI E field trial in the UK. The early findings have already informed the development of the 2011 BMW ActiveE car, a four-seat car based on the BMW 1 Series Coupe, but the biggest beneficiary will be the BMW i3, the first purpose-built EV from the BMW Group, set for launch in 2013.
