DOE: light-duty plug-in electrified vehicle sales in US nearly doubled from 2020 to 2021

Sales of new light-duty plug-in electric vehicles, including all-electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), nearly doubled from 308,000 in 2020 to 608,000 in 2021, according to data gathered by the US Department of Energy (DOE). EV sales accounted for 73% of all plug-in electric vehicle sales in 2021.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey to become Toyota’s first European plant to produce plug-in-hybrid vehicles and batteries

Mercedes-Benz xEV sales up 37% in Q1; 32% of those battery-electric

Mercedes-Benz xEV sales (plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles) rose 37% ub Q1 2022 to 67,800 units of which 21,900 (+210%) units were battery-electric vehicles (BEV). Driven by the EQA, EQS and the EQC, Mercedes-Benz was able to more than triple sales of battery electric EQ models to reach 21,900 (+210%) units.

Volvo Cars all-electric sales climb to 19% of all sales in February

Volvo Cars reported global sales of 51,286 cars in February, up 22% compared to the same month last year and a record for the month of February. The sales growth was led by the company’s Recharge line up of fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars. China sales reached 13,066 cars, up 50% compared with February last year.

Although overall light-duty vehicle sales were down in 2020 due to the pandemic, plug-in vehicle sales bucked that trend and saw growth in many markets. This was especially evident in Europe where the share of plug-in vehicle sales more than tripled, reaching 10.5% of all light-duty vehicle sales, respectively.
