The associations pointed out that political measures restricting the rollout of the new generation of diesel technology would undermine existing efforts to cut CO 2 emissions. We have introduced high‐efficiency diesel engines and diesel particulate filters that eliminate almost all particle emissions from the exhaust tailpipe.

Members of the European Parliament voted yesterday to reject a proposed veto of the plan to raise NO x emission limits for diesel cars temporarily by up to 110% when the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) test procedure is introduced. We have avoided uncertainties, because industry now has strict but sustainable deadlines to meet.

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) outlined the industry’s proposal for a pathway to future CO 2 reductions: a 20% CO 2 reduction for passenger cars by 2030, compared to 2021. The European Commission will reveal its proposal on CO 2 targets for cars post-2021 later this year.
