The Professor Ferdinand Porsche Prize was awarded by Vienna University of Technology to Anke Kleinschmit, Head of Corporate Research & Sustainability and Environmental Officer for Daimler AG, for the development of the innovative exhaust gas aftertreatment system in the new OM 654 four-cylinder diesel engine ( earlier post ).

Diesel engines may still have a future at Toyota, in some markets at least. In a recent interview with Australian publication Drive , Toyota Australia sales and marketing boss said diesel is “not going to die off anytime soon,” adding that it remains viable as part of hybrid powertrains, “particularly for heavy vehicles.”

At the Los Angeles Auto Show next week, Porsche will present a long wheelbase version of its new Panamera version, called the Panamera Executive. Porsche introduced the fully redeveloped second-generation of the Panamera in the summer of 2016. The Executive models of the big Porsche have a 150 mm longer wheelbase.

Embracing the outcome of the German National Diesel Forum earlier this week ( earlier post ), the Volkswagen Group announced that it will offer a trade-in incentive for Euro 1 - Euro 4 diesel models which will apply across all brands in the Group. The auto industry and the Federal government will each contribute €250 million.
